Moroccan MP Slams Telecom Companies for Slow Internet Speeds Nationwide

Member of Parliament Ahmed Abbadi from the parliamentary group of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) in the House of Representatives denounced the low bandwidth of the Internet connection in several cities and regions of Morocco, attributing responsibility for this situation to the telecommunications companies.

In a written question addressed to Ghita Mezzour, the Delegate Minister in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Ahmed Abbadi deplored the weakness of the Internet bandwidth and the recurrent network outages in many cities of the kingdom, denouncing the poor quality of the services provided by the telecommunications companies.

The parliamentarian notes a "contradiction between the commercial advertisements of the telecommunications companies claiming to offer quality and high-speed Internet services, and the reality which shows a great deterioration of these services", specifying that this poor quality of the Internet connection negatively affects all the vital sectors of the Moroccan economy, in a context where the kingdom is active in the organization of the 2025 CAN and the 2030 World Cup.

While the quality of the Internet connection is lacking, the prices charged by Moroccan companies remain high compared to some neighboring countries, observes Ahmed Abbadi, stressing that if the bandwidth is weak in urban areas, it is almost non-existent in rural areas, to the great dismay of the inhabitants of these regions. The PPS deputy asked the minister what measures and actions she intends to take to improve and strengthen the quality of this vital service.
