Moroccan Scientist Moncef Slaoui Reflects on Youthful Activism and Career Choice

From his arrival at the university in Belgium, Moncef Slaoui fell into political activism, and sought to overthrow the regime in Morocco.
"I would have become a terrorist today," said the eminent Moroccan scientist with a touch of humor, who, instead of embarking on the path of rebellion, chose to be useful to his country by investing in scientific research. For this, nothing better than the world of pharmacology where several diseases, still incurable, continued to claim millions of victims worldwide.
"This path has proven to be much more productive and more effective than disappearing into the corridors of prisons," Slaoui told the American media USA Today. He only needed 4 hours of sleep, but could not do without his daily dose of exercise.
The member of the Board of Directors of the Moderna laboratory and Head of the Vaccine Division at the GSK laboratories did not hesitate to drop everything to devote himself to his new "Warp speed" mission. Appointed by President Donald Trump, the immunology researcher has teamed up with the US military to develop a Covid-19 vaccine.
