Moroccan School Uniform Policy Sparks Debate Over Jeans and Hijab

A deputy from the Party of Justice and Development (PJD - Islamist), denounced the obligation for students at the Ibn Abbad college, located in Salé, to wear a uniform with "jeans" pants as an abuse and a serious violation of the right to wear the hijab.
For Touria Afif, the veil represents an authentic and appropriate attire, respecting the decency and sacredness of educational institutions as well as the educational system.
In a written question addressed to the Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, the deputy is dismayed that the internal regulations of the college in question require students to wear a uniform with blue jeans pants, stating in this same question that this decision has caused great surprise and deep discontent among students, their fathers, mothers and guardians, as well as in national public opinion.
The member of the parliamentary group considers that the obligation for students to wear "jeans" pants is a serious matter, asking the Minister of National Education to explain the urgent measures his ministry will take to resolve this matter, in order to ensure the prevention of such administrative excesses and abuses that undermine the country’s education system.
