Moroccan Rights Group Demands Accountability for Deadly Factory Incident in Tangier

The Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH) is calling on the government and demanding that those responsible for the Tanger tragedy be sanctioned to the scale of the loss caused to the families.
AMDH considers that "the statements that the production unit in question was operating illegally are confessions that condemn the authorities for their responsibility in this tragedy," in which families have lost several members. The central office of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights presents its "most sincere condolences and expressions of sympathy to the families of the victims of this incident, and expresses its support in the face of this great injustice that has affected them and led to the loss of their families in these painful circumstances."
While recalling that this clandestine factory was located in the garage of a two-story villa, where more than 50 people, mostly women but also minors, are employed under conditions that do not comply with any standards, the AMDH calls on the State to ensure that such tragedies do not recur.
Similarly, faced with the government’s inability to control the informal sector in which many textile and leather industries operate, the AMDH demands the eradication of this sector and emphasizes the need to ensure the health and safety of workers in all production units. It also suggests activating control operations in accordance with the laws in force.
