Moroccan Retiree Loses 700,000 Dirhams in Royal Palace Scam

A Moroccan living abroad, who had returned to Morocco to retire there, was swindled by a scammer who claimed to be close to the royal palace, and lost the sum of 700,000 dirhams.
The case is reported by the newspaper Assabah. According to the publication, this scammer had falsified several official documents from the royal palace, promising the Moroccan expatriate to obtain transport permits in exchange for large sums of money estimated at around 700,000 dirhams.
To better convince his victims, the man forged documents from the royal palace with serial numbers almost making them pass for real. The Moroccan expatriate, who was residing in France, was to go to Tangier, Meknes and Nador to collect his permits allowing him to start a transport company.
According to the daily, the man was approached by intermediaries who made him dream of transport permits from King Mohammed VI. After several weeks of waiting, he finally filed a complaint with the prosecutor of the king of Meknes.
Arrested and detained, the scammer is due to appear before the judge next month. The investigation carried out by the justice system revealed that the man had already swindled several other victims, including a fraud of 60,000 dirhams for a supposed rental of a permit, and another of 240,000 dirhams for the so-called renewal of a taxi fleet.
