Moroccan Real Estate Developer Arrested for Defrauding Expatriates in Unfinished Housing Scheme

Finally behind bars. Wanted for several months for defrauding dozens of Moroccans living abroad in a real estate deal, a developer has finally been arrested.
The latter was recognized by some victims last week as he was walking around Casablanca, reports the newspaper Al Massae. He is accused of having disappeared with the victims’ money, mostly MREs, who had paid for the most part 250,000 dirhams for their apartment in Bouznika which they were supposed to have already taken possession of.
The problem is that this developer stopped the work more than 4 years ago and since then there has been no news of the apartments or the suspect. In the meantime, several demonstrations and sit-ins had been organized by the victims who had lost several tens of millions of dirhams in this project comprising 700 apartments spread over three subdivisions.
This case had caused an outcry and the issue had even been debated in parliament a few months ago, the newspaper recalls.
