Moroccan Purchasing Power Declines as Inflation Hits Household Budgets

The purchasing power of Moroccans has decreased in 2024 compared to last year, according to a study conducted by L’Économiste-Sunergia. The culprit is galloping inflation, which has forced the majority of Moroccans to review their consumption.
When asked whether their "purchasing power has improved or deteriorated this year compared to last year", 49% of the Moroccans surveyed said their purchasing power has deteriorated this year, while 25% said it has improved.
By gender, 54% of men believe their purchasing power has deteriorated compared to 43% of women. By age, about 22% of men think it has improved compared to 29% of women. By socio-professional category, 19% of men and 15% of women believe their purchasing power has remained stable.
In detail, young people aged 25-34 (55%) and 35-44 (56%) believe their purchasing power has declined. In terms of socio-professional categories, category A and B civil servants are the most affected by the decline in purchasing power (58%), followed by those in categories D and E (54%) and category C (44%).
