Moroccan Public Sector Unions Call Nationwide Strike Over Rising Prices

To protest against the rise in prices, three trade union centers called on Tuesday for a national strike on June 20 in the public sector. The sectors that are likely to be affected by this paralysis are public institutions, local authorities and the transport and logistics sector.
The General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the Democratic Organization of Labor (ODT) and the Federation of Democratic Unions (FSD) are the three trade union centers that have called for a general strike in the public sector. The objective is to protest against the surge in prices and to "commemorate the anniversary of the June 20, 1981 movement, known as the bread riots".
In a joint statement, these three unions condemn the government whose policy "destroys the gains of the working class and its right to a decent standard of living". They hold the Executive responsible for "the attack on social stability". They protest against the "regression of the living conditions of the poor classes of society and the continuous increases in the prices of hydrocarbons and consumer products".
They call on the government to find quick solutions to this situation which is getting worse day by day. For the unions, the increase in salaries must be among the solutions considered in order to allow civil servants to cope with the high cost of living.
