Moroccan MP Proposes Amnesty Bill for Hirak Protest Detainees

The deputy of the Unified Socialist Party (PSU), Nabila Mounib, is putting back on the table of parliament, the bill to grant a general amnesty to the detainees of the Hirak.
"The approval of this bill will strengthen the trust between the State and the marginalized regions. A historical reconciliation with these areas is necessary to move forward in development," said Nabila Mounib, stressing that the government has now recognized the demands of the Hirak activists as "legitimate and fair" and that the bill thus has every chance of succeeding.
In substance, this bill which is awaiting examination, asks for the cancellation of all the sentences pronounced against the people detained during the demonstrations which took place in October 2016, in the Rif region. But according to many specialists, the PSU’s request is likely to fail, the party being very much in the minority in parliament.
But Nabila Mounib intends to convince the rest of her colleagues to join the PSU for the vote on this law which, according to her, would only be justice for the Hirak detainees. Moreover, last November, the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, had affirmed to be working on a request for amnesty for the Hirak detainees.
However, if the deputy wants to defend this bill, she will have to accept the anti-Covid vaccine, since she is prohibited from entering parliament for lack of a vaccination record.
