Moroccan Private Clinics Under Fire for Patient Exploitation During Pandemic

Before the advisors of the 2nd Chamber, the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb was questioned about the excesses of certain private clinics. They occur after the incident of the checks required by the same hospitals before any intervention on patients with coronavirus.

This concern was raised by the group of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) in the second Chamber, reports Al Massae. According to the parliamentarians, these targeted clinics confiscate the national identity cards and passports of patients. This attitude has provoked the anger of the population.

The other criticized measure concerns the tariff overruns. For the PJD advisors, the clinics take advantage of the pandemic to bill the night at 6,000 to 15,000 dirhams. Thus, the treatment period is sanctioned by an amount that reaches 150,000 dirhams. According to the PJD, these unworthy behaviors of the clinics occur while five famous clinics were involved in the theft of drugs from public hospitals.

In his intervention, the minister confirmed cases of tariff overruns in 56 private clinics, including eight caring for Covid-19 patients, following an inspection mission and controls. Continuing his statement, Khalid Ait Taleb announced that 3 of the targeted clinics have been temporarily suspended from the third-party payer mode, and three private clinics with reimbursement of the overcharges.
