Moroccan Prison Officials Face Sanctions for Drug Offenses and Inmate Abuse

About thirty officials working in Moroccan prisons have just been sanctioned by their hierarchy, for their involvement in drug cases and other shortcomings.
According to the newspaper Al Massae, these agents were spotted following confidential inspection reports, revealing serious offenses committed by the persons concerned, including violations of the physical integrity of inmates or breaches of the code of ethics.
As a result, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) has relieved some of their duties, and has imposed disciplinary sanctions on others ranging from punitive transfer to demotion.
"This kind of behavior must not happen again," warned the Delegate of the Prison Institution Mohamed Salah Tamek, who sent a note to central and local directors as well as prison officials to notify the sanctions imposed on the agents.
