Moroccan Prison Authority Denies Claims of Mistreatment in Rif Protest Leader’s Case

A formal denial has been provided by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), following statements it described as "false", reporting on a search that would have targeted prisoners linked to the events in Al Hoceima and who are inmates of the prison of Ras El Ma, in Fez.
In a press release, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) brushed aside the allegations relayed by the father of a detainee. The name is not mentioned, but it is the leader of the Rif Hirak, Nasser Zefzafi.
In reality, it indicates, the operation to search the prisoners did not suffer any breach. It was carried out professionally and with respect for the dignity of the detainees, while complying with the legal and organic provisions governing penitentiary establishments.
For the DGAPR, which emphasizes the exemplary behavior of the officials in charge of the operation, all means will be used to "prohibit the circulation of illicit products within the penitentiary establishments".
The same will apply, it adds, to search operations which are carried out "without distinction or preference between detainees".
Finally, the press release notes that this way of manipulating public opinion by disseminating false information will not shake its mode of operation known for its professionalism.
