Moroccan Preacher Sparks Controversy: Calls for Boycott of Algerian Dates, Favors Israeli Produce

Salafist sheikh Mohamed Al Fizazi has just issued a "fatwa" against Algerian dates and says he prefers Israeli dates. He explains himself.
"If you give me Chanegriha dates (Algerian army chief of staff, editor’s note) and Netanyahu dates, I’ll take the Netanyahu dates (Israeli Prime Minister)," said Mohamed Al Fizazi on the set of Chada TV, arguing that his opinion stems from the precepts of the Muslim religion. "Netanyahu did not do to my country and my people what Chanegriha did," he added.
In a video posted in March on social networks, the Moroccan preacher had called for a boycott of Algerian dates. "I said that as a Moroccan, I will not consume the Algerian date, even if it is healthy and delicious. We will not consume Algerian dates because we consider this to be part of the economic war," he had declared.
