Moroccan Port Bust: 18 Arrested in International Drug Smuggling Attempt

Eighteen people, including MREs, were arrested on Saturday for their alleged involvement in an attempted international drug trafficking operation. The operation was carried out by elements of the judicial police brigade at the Tanger Med port.
Aged between 30 and 50, the suspects were arrested at the passenger terminal of the Tanger Med port. They were about to leave the national territory as part of a trip intended for Moroccans residing abroad, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). They had swallowed cannabis capsules, but the scanner check revealed the presence of these drug balls in the stomachs of the defendants.
In addition, the police elements also carried out searches which also led to the seizure of four vehicles registered abroad that would have been used in the transport of drugs. The accused were placed under medical supervision for the extraction of the drug capsules.
They will then be the subject of a judicial investigation in order to determine the exact circumstances of this case and its ramifications at the national and international levels, concludes the DGSN.
