Moroccan Politician Gets 3-Year Sentence for Election Fraud in Guelmim

The representative of the Rassemblement national des indépendants (RNI) in the professional elections in the Guelmim region was sentenced to three years in prison for having bought votes.
The verdict was handed down on Wednesday, August 11. The court of first instance in Guelmim sentenced the RNI candidate whose video circulated on social networks, showing him distributing money in exchange for votes during the professional elections last Friday, to 3 years in prison.
According to the King’s Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Guelmim, the individual was investigated on the same day as the incident. He had announced that legal proceedings could take place depending on the results of the investigation in accordance with the legal provisions.
For its part, the governing body of the Rassemblement national des indépendants indicated in a press release that it had opened an internal investigation on the issue of money in exchange for votes with the suspension of the membership of the Dove candidate until the publication of the results of the judicial investigation.
The regional section of the RNI assured that the file has been referred to the organizational bodies in order to determine the responsibilities in the light of the results of the investigation.
