Moroccan Police Officer Sentenced for Assaulting Expatriate at Border Crossing

A police officer was sentenced to 3 months in prison with a fine of 5,000 dirhams, for his involvement in the assault of a Moroccan living abroad and an activist in Nador.
The order was handed down on Tuesday, December 24 by the court of first instance of the same city. According to the statements of the victim, a resident of Belgium, the police officer and his brother had beaten him at the Beni Nsar passage.
"On October 17, I was the victim of a savage assault by a policeman and his brother who had stopped me on the pretext that I was going to run them over with my car. I had avoided the worst thanks to the intervention of police officers and witnesses on the spot," he explained in a message on Facebook.
Relying on a 30-day physical incapacity certificate, the man filed a complaint with the Attorney General who ordered the opening of an investigation. He was then received by the head of the police station who reassured him about the progress of the investigation, but asked him not to talk about it to the media.
