Moroccan Police Officer Faces Death Penalty Trial for Double Homicide in Casablanca

The investigating judge at the Court of Appeal of Casablanca had to postpone to November 30 the trial of the police officer, prosecuted for the murder of two young people. The accused did not appear in court as scheduled on Monday.
The defense of the accused had previously refused the decision of the criminal chamber of the same Court, which had recommended holding the trial by videoconference, due to the maintenance of the state of health emergency in the country.
The police officer, who has been detained for more than a year in the Oukacha prison for double homicide, faces sanctions that can go up to the death penalty, Alyaoum24 reported.
The facts date back to July 7, 2019 in Casablanca. Using his service weapon, a police officer had "coldly executed" a man and a woman in a state of drunkenness. The inspector, who was in the midst of wedding preparations, was later arrested near Cabo negro, in the north of the country.
