Moroccan Police Officer Arrested in Fez for Alleged Bribery and Extortion

A police officer from the provincial security district of the city of Sefrou was arrested on Tuesday by the prefectural judicial police service in Fez, on suspicion of extortion and bribery.
The arrest follows a judicial investigation initiated by the competent prosecutor’s office, after the filing of a complaint by a citizen accusing the police officer. He was intercepted while receiving a sum of money from the complainant. The victim had previously filed a complaint for extortion and bribery.
The officer is currently in custody, under the authority of the competent prosecutor’s office, which is conducting the investigation to shed light on this case. Meanwhile, the General Directorate of National Security says it wants to take appropriate disciplinary action against the police officer concerned, once the judicial procedure is completed.
