Moroccan Police Investigate Death of Military Doctor with Health Complications

The Tangier police prefecture provided clarifications on the death of "military doctor" Mourad Sghir. This man "suffered from serious health complications."
In a statement, the Tangier police prefecture said that the Mohammed V Hospital in the city informed "on November 12, 2023, the 5th police district of the city of the death of a person in the emergency room after being admitted while suffering from serious health complications, which prevented the hospital administrative staff from collecting his data and verifying his identity." This death led to the opening of an investigation by the judicial police of the district. It first proceeded with the necessary observations and observations, "which revealed the absence of visible signs of violence or resistance to violence on the body of the deceased."
After which, a forensic identification technician collected the fingerprints of the deceased person, in order to carry out the necessary steps to identify him and inform his family of this death.
This identification operation, carried out through the automatic fingerprint identification system, proved fruitful. This "led to a match with a resident in France declared as an employee, according to the data provided to obtain the consular registration certificate issued by the Moroccan Consulate General in Bordeaux in France," specifies the Tangier police prefecture. Subsequently, the police district conducted investigations to determine the deceased’s place of residence in Morocco and to find his relatives, knowing that all of his personal data was recorded in France. The purpose is to definitively confirm the identity resulting from the automatic identification system.
These searches made it possible to find a person who, from the beginning of the investigation, was considered the potential brother of the deceased. "This man confirmed having a brother matching the data collected by the automatic identification, without being able to provide information on his current place of residence in Morocco. However, he presented the contact details of his two sisters who were summoned by the police and were able to identify the body," details the same source, adding that in parallel, the police district in charge of the investigation requested the prosecution to proceed with an autopsy to determine the cause of death. "This autopsy was carried out by a specialized forensic doctor, who recorded the results of the operation in a report for the attention of the prosecution overseeing the investigation," specifies the Tangier police prefecture, concluding that the remains were handed over to the deceased’s family who initiated the burial procedures.
