Moroccan Police Hunt Cybercriminals Posing as Diplomats in Investment Scam

The judicial police are actively searching for fake diplomats who have victimized many people in Tetouan. Their modus operandi is to scam businessmen on social networks by offering them fake investment projects in dollars in Morocco.
These cybercriminals are in the sights of the regional brigade of the judicial police under the prefecture of the national security of Tetouan, reports the daily Al Akhbar which specifies that these individuals, who pose as diplomats in office in Morocco, lure local businessmen by offering them to establish partnerships with foreign investors for the realization of multi-million dollar projects in Morocco. But before any negotiation, they demand dollar payments to fulfill the various formalities.
After the complaint of a young businessman, victim of the scam of these cybercriminals, the judicial police of Tetouan opened an investigation. The young man tells the police that the fake diplomats put him in contact with a supposed US Marine who had announced on social networks that she and some of her colleagues had discovered millions of dollars during one of their missions, and that for reasons of discretion, they cannot invest it in their country and are looking for a trusted partner to carry out investments in a third country. The victim was then directed to other cybercriminals to pay the sum of 50,000 DH which, they say, should be used to complete the formalities.
The investigation allowed the judicial police of Tetouan to collect some evidence, including documents on money transfers, phone numbers, bank accounts on social networks. With this information, the judicial police, very active in the fight against cybercrime, are slowly but surely heading towards the arrest of these cybercriminals.
