Moroccan Police Bust Network Falsifying Documents for Israeli Citizenship

About ten people accused of being part of a criminal network specializing in the falsification of official documents have been arrested Tuesday and Wednesday by the police.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicates that the members of this network were active in "the falsification of official documents in order to obtain Moroccan nationality and national identity documents". Among the arrested persons, there is a "Moroccan of Jewish faith, three police officers, an authority agent, a civil servant of an administrative annex, a commercial manager of a travel agency as well as three people suspected of having participated in the facilitation of these criminal acts".
The modus operandi is detailed by the DGSN press release and consists in falsifying "birth certificates for the benefit of citizens holding Israeli nationality who are not of Moroccan origin, obtaining falsified certificates of non-registration in the civil registry to include them in judicial case files claiming authorization for registration in the civil registry, and subsequently obtaining birth certificates with the identities of Moroccan Jews".
Thus, the network allowed the beneficiaries to obtain Moroccan passports for illegal purposes in exchange for sums ranging from $5,000 to $7,000, with the complicity of police officers, authority agents and civil servants.
All the arrested persons were placed in custody for the needs of the investigation, which continues to identify all the foreign beneficiaries, it is further stated.
