Moroccan Police Bust Counterfeit Food and Cleaning Product Ring, Arrest 10 Suspects

The National Brigade of the Judicial Police and the police prefecture services of Meknès and Fès carried out an operation on Wednesday that led to the arrest of 10 people aged between 28 and 56. They would be involved in a criminal network active in the counterfeiting of packaging used for expired food and cleaning products.
The activities carried out by this network of criminals constitute real public health problems. The police simultaneously raided 11 warehouses in the cities of Fès, Meknès, Sefrou and Moulay Yacoub, and were able to seize expired food, consumer and cleaning products of unknown origin, packaged with new expiration dates, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
A more thorough inspection of the spaces arranged inside these warehouses made it possible to seize packaging tools and equipment used for counterfeiting and printing brands. Hundreds of labels of several commercial brands and significant quantities of expired products in the process of production as well as other quantities ready for marketing were seized, the statement said.
The ten suspects were taken into custody and made available to the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to determine the possible national ramifications of this criminal activity.
