Moroccan Police Arrest Fraudster Posing as Intelligence Agent in Immigration Scam

The Judicial Police arrested a fake Moroccan intelligence agent in Casablanca. Claiming to have well-placed connections, he defrauded his victims by promising to immigrate their children.
The defendant, who is now accused of fraud and identity theft, by posing as a senior official of the Moroccan intelligence services abroad, has a dozen victims to whom he had promised immigration. According to Le360.ma, the accused would have swindled more than a hundred people by extorting large sums of money, ranging from 50,000 to 60,000 dirhams.
Always well-dressed and driving a luxury 4x4 rental car, the scammer operated discreetly. His victims, often elderly men, were targeted in mosques. The con man approached them to gain their trust. He then showed interest in the schooling of these parents’ children, to whom he promised a study trip abroad. The fake agent offered them immigration to the Netherlands, claiming the payment of bonuses to immigrants by the Dutch authorities, depending on their diplomas.
Despite the 30,000 dirhams he extorted from the last two victims, he still demanded additional fees from them. The victims, intrigued by his suspicious behavior, filed two complaints with the Judicial Police, who quickly arrested the fake intelligence agent in a famous Casablanca café.
During the preliminary investigation, the man continued to claim to belong to the intelligence services, before finally admitting to being a police commissioner at the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), and a con man, for several years.
