Moroccan Physicists Ranked Among World's Top 50 Scientists in Global Index

Two Moroccan researchers from the Mohammed V University in Rabat, Rajaa Cherkaoui El Moursli and Farida Fassi, are on the list of the 50 best scientists in the world.

These two researchers have risen to the top ranks of the latest AD 2021 International Scientific Index ranking.

Rajaa Cherkaoui El Moursli, a professor of nuclear physics known worldwide. In 2015, she received the L’Oréal-UNESCO Prize for Women in Science for her contribution to the proof of the existence of the Higgs boson. She was the first Moroccan woman to receive this prestigious award.

According to this ranking, Professor El Moursli ranks first in all fields in Morocco, Africa and the "Arab League". At the global level, she ranks 33rd.

Farida Fassi, ranked 38th worldwide and second in Morocco, is an associate professor of physics. She has contributed to research on high-energy physics, as well as the Worldwide Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Grid, which aims to solve the data storage problem for the LHC.

Through these two researchers, Morocco is proving its scientific and academic power. Rajaa Cherkaoui El Moursli and Farida Fassi are considered pioneers by both local and international measures.

It should be noted that the rankings are based on three key factors: the H-index, the i10 index, and the total number of citations. The h-index is an author-level metric that measures the productivity and citation impact of their publications, based on a set of the most cited articles by scientists. The i10 index measures the number of publications with at least 10 citations via Google Scholar.
