Moroccan Party Urges King to Halt ’Real Estate Mafia’ in Rabat’s Historic District

The Moroccan Liberal Party (PML) has called on King Mohammed VI to urgently intervene to protect the inhabitants of Rabat, particularly in the historic streets, against the offensive of "influential people" and "real estate mafia".
In a statement issued following an emergency meeting of its political bureau, the PML denounces the illegal appropriation of an adjacent building housing the office of lawyer Isaac Charia, who is also the party’s secretary general. According to this political party, "influential people" and the "real estate mafia" are taking advantage of international events organized by Rabat to evict citizens from their homes and transform them into hotels or tourist establishments.
The party is calling on the public prosecutor’s office to open a thorough investigation into suspicions of corruption, money laundering, and real estate mafia linked to the so-called "Parliament building" affair. It also urges local authorities and elected bodies, represented by the Rabat municipality, to open an urgent investigation into what it described as "falsified reports". According to the party, the Parliament building is allegedly threatened with collapse, even though it shares the same foundations as the headquarters of the House of Representatives.
Finally, the party calls on the Ministry of Culture to intervene immediately to protect the intangible heritage of the city of Rabat against the assault of the real estate mafia, particularly in the historic streets of the capital.
