Moroccan Parliament Considers Expanding Seats for Overseas Citizens

The group of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) in the House of Councillors advocates increasing the number of members of the first chamber, in order to allow Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) to have their representatives.
The USFP proposes that the number of members of the first chamber, which is 395 deputies, be increased to 425. This through the creation of 30 new seats for the benefit of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE). The achievement of such a proposal will allow the MRE to directly elect their representatives in their own constituencies.
To this end, the USFP councillors call for the amendment of Organic Law 27.11 relating to the House of Representatives as part of the preparations for the 2021 legislative elections.
Similarly, they demand the creation by decree of constituencies outside the national territory, taking into account in the determination of these constituencies the presence of diplomatic or consular representations as polling station centers.
