Moroccan Parents Resist Government’s Push to Vaccinate Children Under 12 Against COVID-19

54% of Moroccan parents opposed the vaccination of children under 12, launched by the government, on the eve of the school year. This, as part of the large-scale vaccination campaign against Covid-19.
In August 2021, the authorities had started a vaccination program for schoolchildren from the age of 12. According to the results of a survey conducted by Sunergia and the newspaper l’Économiste, the subject had divided the Moroccans. To the question "Are you for or against the vaccination against Covid of children under 12 years old?", "54% answered in the negative.
In detail, women, young people under 34 and city dwellers are the most numerous to show reluctance to this vaccination. Conversely, "27% of Moroccans are in favor of vaccinating children under 12 against Covid," the survey points out.
Aware of this reserve, the authorities had immediately urged parents and guardians to accompany their children to the nearest schools so that they could receive the first dose of the vaccine, thus protecting the health safety of their families and ensuring better learning conditions for the start of the school year.
The health measures taken by the authorities must be respected in order to avoid a worsening of the epidemiological situation, the government had argued.
