Moroccan Paradise Lost: Beaches Struggle Against Tide of Pollution and Incivility

In Morocco, most beaches are not clean due to the prevailing incivility. Despite the efforts made by the authorities, the problem remains.
Abandoned plastic bottles, scattered packaging, glass shards and cans, stray dogs... Incivility threatens Moroccan beaches, thus spoiling the experience of summer vacationers. This pollution causes environmental problems. The presence of stray dogs also poses health and safety problems. However, initiatives have been taken to fight against the public’s indiscipline and incivility on the beach.
Among them, the National Household Waste Program, which has set itself the objective of improving the collection and treatment of urban waste. The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection is also contributing to the effort through the "Clean Beaches" program. Another initiative: the blue label to raise environmental and tourism standards. In total, 28 beaches "proudly display" this label in 2025, reports Hespress. Not to mention awareness campaigns and calls to conscience.
Faced with the persistence of the problem, it is urgent that sanctions for incivility be effectively applied. Collective responsibility and education for eco-citizenship are also necessary.
