Moroccan Opposition Seeks Probe into Russian Diesel Imports

Morocco’s import of Russian gas is a concern for opposition deputies gathered within the parliamentary groups of the Popular Movement (MP) and the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), and the Party of Justice and Development (PJD). They are working to set up a parliamentary inquiry commission.
To shed light on the issue of Morocco’s import of Russian diesel. This will be the mission of the parliamentary inquiry commission that could be set up if the parliamentary groups of the MP, PPS and PJD manage to collect one-third of the signatures of the 395 deputies sitting in the House of Representatives, i.e. 131 signatures of deputies required.
The mission of the inquiry will be to collect "information relating to the case of the import of Russian gas and the suspicions related to the commercial transparency, security and legality of the operations," explain the three opposition components in a statement. The issue of importing Russian diesel is "closely linked to energy security and bills, purchasing power and tax revenues," they explain.
Rachid Hamouni, president of the PPS parliamentary group, confirmed to the site Le360 the launch "as of Friday, April 7, 2023 of the initiative" in accordance with the law on the establishment of inquiry commissions. According to him, if the three components (MP, PPS and PJD) who only have 63 deputies fail to collect the 131 signatures of deputies required to form an inquiry commission, a petition would be necessary. "The petition attracts convictions. It is open to all deputies regardless of their party, group and affiliation," he assured.
