Moroccan Opposition Party Slams Fez-Israeli City Twinning Agreement

The Party of Justice and Development (PJD) has denounced the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel, including the twinning agreement signed on Friday between the cities of Fez and Kfar Saba, located northeast of Tel Aviv.
Abdeslam El Bekkali, mayor of Fez, on a visit to Israel, announced that he had concluded a cooperation and twinning agreement with the Israeli city of Kfar Saba. The document was published on the Twitter page of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat.
In a statement, the local PJD office reacted, expressing its categorical disagreement. The party members also denounced the warming of diplomatic ties between Morocco and Israel, which led to this twinning.
Explaining on his Facebook page, the mayor of Fez indicated that "his visit to Israel is made at the invitation of the President of the Federation of Mayors of Israel".
"I participated in the 2022 World Mayors Expo, where I had the opportunity to meet a large number of mayors of Israeli cities, about half of whom are Moroccan Jews who manage the affairs of their communities, who expressed their love for Morocco and Moroccans and their attachment to our authentic homeland and His Majesty, may God assist him," he wrote.
