Moroccan Opposition Leader Urges Algeria to Reopen Shared Border for Economic Growth

The closure of the border between Morocco and Algeria is a concern for the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS). Its Secretary General Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah has made an urgent appeal to the Algerian authorities.
A new call for the reopening of the borders between Morocco and Algeria. During a meeting organized by his party in the city of Bouarfa, near the eastern border of the kingdom, Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary General of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) called on the Algerian government to open the borders with Morocco. To try to convince the Algerian leaders of the relevance of his appeal, he evokes the lost development opportunities between the two countries and calls on them to nurture reflections in this direction. He also asked them to dissociate the Sahara issue, "which has always been and will remain Moroccan," from the relations between the two countries.
Benabdallah says he regrets the decline in development in the eastern border regions of Morocco for decades, unlike other regions of the kingdom. "Despite some developments that these regions could experience in terms of roads and infrastructure, the social reality, in terms of human resources, public services, social services, the economic reality and that of employment for young men and women, show that these regions are lagging behind, particularly in terms of poverty rates and signs of backwardness," he noted.
