Moroccan Opposition Leader: No Compromise on Western Sahara Dispute with Algeria

The Secretary General of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), Nabil Benabdallah, declared on Saturday that the issue of the Moroccan Sahara "remains the absolute priority, as a question of national liberation, and must not be the subject of any compromise" with Algeria.

Speaking at the opening of the fourth session of the PPS central committee on Saturday, Benabdallah, on behalf of the party, welcomed the diplomatic successes recorded on the Sahara issue, welcoming the recognition by several states of the Moroccanness of the Sahara or the relevance and credibility of the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco.

"The artificial conflict persists due to the obstinacy of the Algerian rulers and their actions that have exceeded all limits, because it seems that their only and sole concern is to oppose Morocco and its national interests, instead of focusing on the internal issues of the brotherly Algerian people," he said.

And he continued: "The most serious thing is that the Algerian leaders have come to stir up the Algerian public opinion, fueling hostility and hatred against everything Moroccan, whether institutionally or at the level of the people."

While inviting to "strengthen the domestic front on the democratic, social and economic levels", the Secretary General of the PPS assured that Morocco, for its part, "will continue to strengthen its position, to reap more successes, in order to achieve a definitive resolution of this long-standing conflict, which hinders the construction of the Maghreb Union for the benefit of its peoples who have a common destiny".
