Moroccan Olive Oil Prices Remain High Despite Government Import Measures

As part of the incentive measures announced by the government, significant quantities of olive oil have been imported to Morocco. However, these massive imports have not impacted the prices of this essential product, which remain high. Currently, olive oil is marketed by companies at prices ranging from 75 to 85 dirhams per liter, while independent farmers sell it for more than 100 dirhams.

According to industry professionals, these prices are not expected to see further decreases. "The prices of certain types of olive oil, marketed by Moroccan companies, have been stable for about two months, between 75 (7.23 euros) and 90 dirhams (8.67 euros). These prices have reached their lowest level, which confirms that the current context does not allow for further decreases," explains a trader in Rabat.

The latter noted a price difference between local olive oil and imported oil. "It is said that some companies resort to packaging imported olive oil in bottles to market it as local oil, without informing the consumer," he details, recalling that the price of olive oil, especially that marketed by companies, was sold at more than 110 dirhams per liter.
