Moroccan Officials Warn Banks Over COVID-19 Safety Violations at ATMs

Following the "shortcomings observed in the hygiene rules in front of bank counters, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Ahmed Hajji, in a correspondence, reminded the regional directors of banks of the roles that are theirs in the fight against the coronavirus.
The Wali of Souss-Massa states that he has received information revealing that "some bank branches do not respect the precautionary rules previously communicated by telephone concerning the sterilization of ATMs".
For Ahmed Hajji, this "lack of commitment of bank branches in the region presents "an obvious risk to the health of citizens and the safety of users of these ATMs", and constitutes "a serious violation of the health rules issued by the Ministry of Health to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic".
Based on these findings, the Wali of Souss-Massa calls on the regional directors of banks to "take preventive measures as soon as they receive" his correspondence, while "ensuring continuous sterilization of ATMs before and after each use, and making disposable towels and sterile solutions available to their users to avoid any transmission of the virus".
