Moroccan Officials Face Trial for Alleged Public Fund Embezzlement in Essaouira

The criminal chamber of the Marrakech Court of Appeal in charge of financial crimes is about to open the trial of around ten officials from the province of Essaouira accused, among other things, of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds.

The president of the Provincial Council belonging to the PAM (Authenticity and Modernity Party), his 7th vice-president in charge of the property file, the 6th vice-president in charge of urban planning as well as the president of the urban planning department within the prefecture and the former director of Al Omrane will soon appear before the judge, reports Al Akhbar.

According to the same daily, the Attorney General at the Marrakech Court of Appeal decided to entrust the conclusions of the investigations carried out by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ), in coordination with its regional services in the Wilaya of Marrakech, to the investigating judge in charge of financial crimes.

In this context, the judge should start the investigations and hear the officials suspected of embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds, fraud, forgery and use of forgeries, and corruption as well as several other dysfunctions related to the management of public affairs in the province of Essaouira.

In addition, a well-known businessman "by the civil society actors of Essaouira as the hub of corruption" within this city and whose name has come up several times in all the investigations should also be heard by the investigating judge.
