Moroccan Official Suspended for Selling Public Land to Wife, Faces Dismissal

The governor of Larache has decided to suspend a PJD municipal councilor from Ksar El Kébir for the sale of public property to his wife.
The file has been transferred to the administrative court of Rabat with in addition a request for the definitive dismissal of the person concerned after notification of the decision, reports Al Akhbar. The decision to suspend was taken following a complaint that municipal councilors of Ksar El Kébir addressed to the governor of Larache.
In this complaint, the PJD municipal councilor is accused of having violated the organic law (article 65) on municipalities by transferring two lots belonging to the municipality to his wife for free use. The contracts for these lots located in the central market of the city were signed respectively in December 2016 and March 2017.
The incriminated elected official has taken note of the measure taken against him and has also acknowledged that the governor is only applying the law. It is up to the court to rule on the request within a month of its referral.
