Moroccan Official Reverses Decision After Public Outcry Over Sick Dog’s Travel Ban

While the owner of a suffering domestic dog was asking for an exceptional travel permit to take him to his veterinarian in Tangier, he was met with the categorical refusal of the pacha of the city of Tetouan. Faced with the pressure of civil society mobilized on social networks, the authority agent capitulated.
The events took place on August 15. The dog’s owner went to see the pacha of the city of Tetouan to obtain an exceptional travel permit. He had to take the seriously ill animal to his veterinarian in Tangier for a medical check-up, reports Al Massae. He presented the pacha with the dog’s medical file, which showed that the animal had undergone surgery and had to go to his veterinarian regularly for a follow-up of his health condition.
The pacha, who was informed of the file, refused to sign the permit for the dog’s owner on the grounds that it was only an animal, the same source specifies. Outraged by his attitude, the dog’s owner informed the veterinarian of the situation.
In turn, he posted a message on social networks in which he called on the local authorities of the city of Tetouan to intervene and the defenders of animal rights to mobilize to save the animal’s life. This call received a favorable response. The pacha signed the exceptional travel permit within 48 hours. The dog was finally taken to his veterinarian on Monday.
