Moroccan Official in Belgium Accused of Sexual Misconduct, Embassy Under Scrutiny
Sunday 14 July 2019, by
Embroiled in a case of loose morals, a Moroccan official in Belgium risks a lot. The victim, who has run up against the laxity of the Moroccan Embassy in Belgium, is strongly supported by the associations of Moroccans residing in Belgium, and has even already brought the case to court.
A dirty affair that does not honor Morocco. This is, at least, what should be emphasized about this indecent saga, mentioned by the daily Assabah, in this weekend’s edition. The irony is that it splashes a Moroccan official who is putting the Representation, par excellence, of the Kingdom in Belgium in difficulty.
According to the revelations of the newspaper, this story broke out when a Moroccan Arabic language teacher filed a complaint with the Belgian police, accusing a Moroccan official of sexual harassment.
According to Assabah, it all started with the advances of this 34-year-old official. He invited her to his office to propose outings together in the evening. The young woman, seconded by the Hassan II Foundation in Belgium to teach Arabic to the children of Moroccans residing abroad, firmly refused. From then on, continues the media, the accused has resorted to threats, trying to find subterfuges to have the teacher’s contract with the Moroccan Embassy in Belgium terminated.
To make her life difficult, the person concerned, who was assigned to teach in a school, was forced to give classes in a mosque, notes Assabah, who adds that she was even required to wear the veil during the performance of her duties. But she refused, which was quickly interpreted in a tendentious way in the reports of the official in question. Faced with these maneuvers, the teacher approached the Moroccan Ambassador in Belgium. But no action was taken on her complaint, the same source said.
Desperate, the victim decided to bring the case to the public, before filing a complaint with the Belgian police services. Moreover, she informed the associations of Moroccans residing in Belgium. Totally committed to the teacher’s cause, they have already decided to organize a protest movement in front of the headquarters of the Moroccan Embassy.
