Moroccan Nurse Sentenced to 2 Months for Bribery in Hospital Corruption Case

The verdict of the doctor and the nurse, prosecuted in pre-trial detention for a corruption case, has been handed down. The court of first instance of Kelaa des Sraghna acquitted the former and sentenced the nurse to 2 months in prison with a fine of 10,000 dirhams.
The facts date back to the end of last August, when a nurse at the Lalla Khadija hospital had demanded 2,600 dirhams from a patient who wanted to have his wife operated on. The man had reported the matter to the public prosecutor’s office via its toll-free number.
Seized of the case, the Royal Gendarmerie of Tamelalt arrested the nurse in flagrante delicto of receiving a bribe, while the doctor was placed in pre-trial detention for the purposes of the investigation, reports the daily Assabah.
In his pleadings, the doctor’s defense requested the release of his client, considering his conviction arbitrary and unfounded. The doctor was not arrested in flagrante delicto of corruption, argued his lawyer.
