Moroccan NGO Leads Summer Beach Cleanup and Environmental Awareness Campaign in Agadir

In Agadir, civil society is mobilizing for two major actions: raising awareness among vacationers about respecting the environment and cleaning up the beaches.
For the eighth consecutive year, the NGO Surfrider Foundation Morocco (SFM) is continuing its "Ocean Initiatives", which are nothing other than a major beach cleaning operation, reports leconomiste.com.
The operation is divided into two phases. The first concerns raising public awareness, particularly among vacationers, about respecting the environment. The second is focused on the collection and recycling of waste.
Started on July 8, 2019, it continues until September 1. It takes into account the five most frequented beaches on the Agadir coastline: Madraba, Km25, Imi Ouaddar, Aghroud 1 and Aghroud 2.
"For this summer season, 170 large and small trash cans have been made available and placed in strategic locations (parking lots, passageways) and at a reduced distance along the beaches. The daily collection of waste is carried out by the trucks of our partner MagVal," explained Rkia Driouch, communication manager of the NGO Surfrider Foundation Morocco.
According to the same source, the operation has made it possible to collect 236 garbage bags, raise awareness among 10,002 people, including participants in summer camps, as well as 514 children, since its launch until July 21.
