Moroccan Navy Special Forces Upgrade to French Verney-Carron Assault Rifles

Morocco attaches importance to the modernization of its army. The Special Forces of the Royal Navy have recently received new French Verney-Carron VCD-15 assault rifles.
These new French assault rifles will replace the old German 9mm Heckler & Koch HK MP-5 submachine guns used until now by the three battalions based in Al Hoceima, Dakhla, Laâyoune and a squadron stationed in Casablanca. The first appearance of the new rifles in the Moroccan army dates back to 2013, reports Maghreb-Intelligence. It was on the occasion of the Flintlock military exercise, organized and led by the United States Special Operations Command Africa (US SOCAFRICA) since 2005.
Designed by the Saint-Étienne gunsmith Verney-Carron, the VCD-15 is an assault rifle meeting the needs of armies, intervention groups and police forces. 815 mm long, this semi-automatic carbine weighs 3.5 kg. It is based on the AR-15 platform, quite close to the military versions M4 and M16.
