Moroccan Mother’s Battle: Fire-Ravaged Home Rebuilt, But Landlord Denies Return

While she wishes to reintegrate her former home in Grabels, which was ravaged by fire in 2023 and is now rebuilt, a Moroccan woman and mother of several children suffering from bipolar disorder is facing enormous difficulties.
Ghizlane T. has been living in a nice residence in Grabels since 2012. On August 20, 2023, her social housing was ravaged by flames. A fire started from a neighbor’s barbecue. The former home is currently under reconstruction and should be available in October. Today, the Moroccan woman wishes to reintegrate it. The only problem: the landlord Promologis no longer considers her as a tenant, as Midi Libre reports. She rejected a relocation proposal (T4 villa) in Clermont-l’Hérault. "As a result, for the past two years, she is no longer among the tenants of our social housing, we are told at Promologis. Our social housing company is required to comply with the procedures for the allocation of social housing and it is impossible for us to directly respond to her wish to reintegrate her former home."
Ghizlane is currently housed precariously, in the social hotel Villa Bellagio, in Montpellier. "I made the mistake of saying yes, of moving in, before realizing after a few days that this solution was not suitable. I don’t drive, my illness prevents me from doing so, there is practically no public transportation in this city and my children had to walk 50 minutes to get to school. Since then, everyone seems to think I’m being capricious, but I’m just asking to reintegrate my home in Grabels," laments this mother of four children. The only alternative available to her, according to Promologis, is to "broaden her search criteria geographically".
