Moroccan Mosques Host Blood Drives During Ramadan, Boosting National Supply

A very nice initiative has just been taken in Moroccan mosques during the sacred month of Ramadan, allowing worshippers to donate blood directly within the mosques.
This operation launched by the National Blood Transfusion and Hematology Center (CNTSH) is a success, as confirmed to 2M by its director Mohammed Benajiba. "It is a fruitful campaign. As every Ramadan, we launch this campaign at the level of all the regions. 96 mosques are concerned in addition to transfusion centers, blood banks and 4 trucks".
And this is reflected in the blood stock which is now "at a satisfactory level with 8 days" with, however, disparities between large and small towns and a very low level in Casablanca and Fès. These two cities average 30 to 35 donations per day, which is unsatisfactory to meet demand.
Since the launch of the Ramadan operation where worshippers can donate blood right after the Tarawih prayer, "the contributions have proven rather substantial, sometimes exceeding the means implemented by the Center," writes 2M.
"Our capacities do not allow us to satisfy all the donors," laments the official, according to whom "the duration of the collection remains limited. If we count from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., 5 hours of work, it is not enough to collect a sufficient number of blood donations".
