Moroccan Minister’s Wife Faces Fraud Allegations in Business Deal
Thursday 11 April 2019, by
A young entrepreneur filed a complaint with the court of first instance in Temara for fraud and abuse of authority, against the wife of the minister in charge of relations with parliament and civil society, and government spokesperson, Mustapha El Khalfi. From the PJD...
The story began when the wife of the government member, Fatim Zahra Baba Ahmed, requested the services of the young entrepreneur in October 2018, for the development of two premises of the National Union of Moroccan Women, UNFM, in order to be able to welcome a delegation of African women, reports the newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
As the representative of a company, mandated by a princess, the minister’s wife proceeded to sign a service contract, which commits the young entrepreneur to painting and landscaping work in exchange for compensation for his services, 15 days after the end of the ceremony.
The young entrepreneur’s calls to be paid after that remained unanswered for a long time, before receiving a series of excuses and pretexts from the minister’s wife, who then offered him to request his payment from the ministry headed by her husband, then from the UNFM headquarters, before finally handing him a check for 20,000 dirhams. An amount which, according to the complainant, does not even cover the penalties paid to his suppliers.
