Moroccan Minister: Social Aid Programs Favor Wealthy, Reform Needed

Lahcen Daoudi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of General Affairs and Governance, has just stated that social support programs benefit much more to wealthy people than to those in need. And that this must stop...
"Unfortunately, social support programs do not benefit the poor," said Lahcen Daoudi, according to the Al Jazeera website. He goes on to say: "The rich continue to benefit from public subsidies on many consumer goods much more than the poor, and we must put an end to this."
According to the minister: "the country’s wealth belongs to all Moroccans, not just a particular segment, and it is necessary to distribute it fairly and (to do so) properly target social support."
Lahcen Daoudi was speaking about the Unified National Registry, which will, according to him, target the underprivileged classes only when it comes to social assistance programs.
In 2014, the number of people in need in Morocco was 2.8 million, including 2.4 million in rural areas and 400,000 in cities.
