Moroccan Military Court Sentences Four Conscripts to Prison for Insubordination

The four conscripts who were arrested a few weeks ago for insubordination have each been sentenced to one year in prison by the Military Court of Rabat. Indeed, during military training, the defendants refused to carry out orders given by their superiors.
In the military field, refusal to comply is a very serious offense. Four young conscripts learned this the hard way. During the hearing that decided their fate, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested heavy sentences against the defendants, given the seriousness of their offenses.
According to Le360, the defendants fought to reject the accusation against them. But the Prosecution, which considered that all the factors constituting the offense were present, requested the heaviest sentences against them.
The judge, according to the website, considered that the defendants had voluntarily presented themselves to do the compulsory military service in the barracks of Guercif and El Hajeb and were required to respect the established rules.
By refusing to perform the requested movements, despite the summons of their instructors, they violated military regulations and the consequences were quickly presented to them.
In court, the lawyers asked for their acquittal, recalling that they had voluntarily joined the military service and that, moreover, they disputed the accusation of refusing to carry out military orders before the court. But the court felt that the offense committed should result in the requested sanction.
