Moroccan Migrants in Ceuta Seek Asylum as Spain Grapples with Migration Crisis

Many Moroccans who arrived in Ceuta en masse two weeks ago, causing an unprecedented migration crisis, do not want to return to Morocco. On Monday, a group of these young people, as well as other Moroccans stranded in Spain since the start of the health crisis, gathered at the immigration office to apply for asylum.
The majority of these young people do not want to return to Morocco. They prefer to build a better future in Spain. That’s why many of them are filling out the administrative formalities for asylum applications at the immigration office, reports El Faro de Ceuta.
In total, 200 Moroccans stranded in Ceuta due to the closure of the Moroccan borders for health reasons, are waiting to be repatriated. The Government Delegation in Ceuta has indicated that it has been engaged for months in negotiations with Morocco to proceed with their repatriation. In vain. The Moroccan authorities have not responded to this request.
