Moroccan Migrant’s Remains Return Home After Tragic Container Death in Paraguay

The remains of Ahmed Bel Miloudi, a migrant who died two years ago in a container in which he and his unfortunate companions hid to reach Italy by train, have finally been repatriated to Morocco. He was buried on Friday in Mohammedia.
Ahmed and 6 other migrants of Egyptian and Algerian origin were unfortunately trapped inside the container that was transporting fertilizers to Paraguay. Their bodies were found on October 23, 2020 after the container was opened in a warehouse in the Santa María de Asunción neighborhood. His friends who saw them board the train and enter the container in Serbia allowed Ahmed Bel Miloudi’s relatives to identify his body through social networks and then contact the Moroccan embassy in Paraguay.
After a long investigation conducted by the Paraguayan forensic police on the instructions of the public prosecutor’s office, the Moroccan’s relatives sent DNA samples, which allowed the identification of the young Moroccan’s body and its repatriation to Rabat. "The whole family is infinitely grateful to Paraguay and its people for the help and support they have given us. All we want is for them to return the body so that we can bury it with dignity in Morocco next to his father," Khadija Belmikdam, the young man’s aunt, had confided to La Nación.
Ahmed, 26, lived in Istanbul (Turkey) and did odd jobs to help his mother and sister who remained in Laâyoune, Morocco. On Thursday, his body was repatriated to Morocco. "We have just received the body of my dear nephew and inshallah, we will bury him on Friday after almost two years of waiting. May God bless you. We pray for you and your families," the young Moroccan’s aunt informed on Thursday.
