Moroccan Migrant’s Body Found in Gibraltar Waters, Buried After Weeks-Long Search

The lifeless body of Jawad Lamkaddam, a young Moroccan, a candidate for immigration, was found in the waters of Gibraltar. He was buried on Saturday in Gibraltar.
Jawad, 25, is a young Moroccan from Fnideq who embarked from Ceuta in February, with several other young compatriots, on a boat that sank at sea, reports El Faro de Ceuta. Only three of the occupants were rescued: two minors from Tetouan and another young man from Fnideq. The rest are missing. It took the police several weeks of searching in the waters of Gibraltar to find two bodies, including that of Jawad, confirmed after DNA tests.
The Peñón police informed his family residing in Fnideq of his death. They were able to attend the funeral broadcast live on social media thanks to the collaboration of the young people of Gibraltar. They could request in the future to exhume the body to bury it in Morocco.
On February 6, Jawad contacted his family by phone to inform them of his departure with other young Moroccans. Since then, his family has remained without news of him until they learned the news of his death.
