Moroccan Media Pioneer Said Jedidi Dies at 75

The world of media and culture in Morocco is in mourning. Said Jedidi, one of the most prominent figures in the Spanish-language press in the kingdom, passed away this Saturday, September 27.
Originally from Tetouan, Said Jedidi is best known for being the first presenter of Spanish-language news bulletins on Moroccan television. For nearly 39 years, his "calm voice and striking presence" accompanied viewers. His career had begun in the late 1960s as a correspondent for Spanish newspapers before joining the national radio and then television.
In addition to his work as a journalist, the deceased was also a translator and a writer. He notably translated several classic Islamic works into Spanish, such as "The Fortress of the Muslim" or "The Risâla of Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani", and contributed to the literary scene with his own creations in Spanish.
For his role as a cultural bridge, he had received the Order of Merit of Spain in 2018, a recognition of his contribution to strengthening the ties between the two kingdoms. He is described as an affable and pious man.
